Having captured the nation’s heart on The Great British Bake Off, where she reached the final, Crystelle Pereira recently joined Chef Atul Kochhar in the kitchen at Kanishka for an exclusive instalment of our Sunday Supper Club series.
Born in North London to Kenyan-born, Portuguese-Goan parents, Crystelle is passionate about sharing recipes inspired by her rich cultural heritage and her extensive global travels. This vibrant background was beautifully showcased in the unique five-course tasting menu she curated for Kanishka.
A Spectacular Five-Course Tasting Menu
The culinary journey began with an exquisite amuse-bouche of Bombay mix-crusted halloumi fries served with tangy chutney. This was followed by a vibrant fish course featuring an expertly prepared Goan prawn curry accompanied by fragrant white basmati rice, alongside gorgeous mini hand pies filled with a richly spiced pickle chicken curry. For the main event, tender mutton was elegantly presented in a classic Xacuti Kathi roll, perfectly balanced by a fresh, crisp slaw and cooling raita. The feast concluded with a deeply comforting and innovative dessert: a spiced chai tres leches cake.
Crystelle Pereira is a dynamic cook, baker, and acclaimed cookbook author based in London. As previously noted, she rose to prominence by reaching the final of The Great British Bake Off in 2021, captivating audiences with her inventive bakes and engaging personality.
