Nigel Haworth was born in Whalley, Lancashire, where his deep-seated culinary roots remain to this day. Following his initial training in Lancashire, he embarked on an extensive gastronomic journey spanning London, Scotland, and Switzerland, before returning home to take over as Head Chef at Northcote Manor in 1984. By 1995, Nigel had been awarded the prestigious Egon Ronay Chef of the Year accolade, and just a year later, he earned his first Michelin star.
Championing Regional British Produce
As a pioneering chef, Nigel has helped define the trajectory of modern British cooking by fiercely championing regional produce and traditional recipes, inspiring countless others to adopt his local, seasonal philosophy. He has also become a beloved presence on television, sharing his expertise on prominent programmes including MasterChef, Great British Menu, and Saturday Kitchen.
For more than three decades, Nigel served as the driving culinary force behind Northcote. During his tenure, alongside co-founder Craig Bancroft, he transformed the restaurant’s unique location in the small Lancashire village of Langho into a true destination for gastronomic pilgrimage.
