Norfolk-born chef Galton Blackiston began his culinary journey while running a humble market stall in Rye, selling home-baked goods as he initially attempted to embark on a professional cricket career. The resounding success of his stall led Galton to realise his true talents lay in the kitchen, prompting him to pursue a path in gastronomy.
A Journey from Market Stall to Michelin Star
Despite having no formal training, Galton secured his first kitchen role at Miller Howe in the Windermere Hotel, working under the expert tutelage of Chef John Tovey. Demonstrating immense natural flair, he quickly rose through the ranks from the pastry section to become Head Chef.
Galton subsequently expanded his culinary repertoire across London, New York, South Africa, and Canada. He eventually returned to his native Norfolk to open Morston Hall with his wife, Tracy. Nestled near the spectacular North Norfolk coast, this picturesque Jacobean country house is now home to their acclaimed restaurant and boutique hotel rooms.
Championing Fresh, Seasonal British Produce
Since its inception, Morston Hall has been a fixture in the Good Food Guide for over two decades. It achieved a Michelin star in 1999, an accolade it has proudly retained ever since. Galton is celebrated for his produce-driven ethos, championing fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local suppliers and his own vibrant kitchen garden. For this exclusive Four Hands event, his coastal expertise and seasonal British approach will harmonise beautifully with Chef Atul Kochhar’s dedication to the rich, authentic spices of India’s unexplored sister states.
Beyond his remarkable restaurant achievements, Galton has authored a series of successful cookbooks and is a familiar, beloved face on British television. We are thrilled to welcome his profound culinary talent to our Mayfair dining room for a truly spectacular and collaborative fine dining experience.
