Chef Jun Tanaka is the acclaimed Chef Patron of The Ninth in London’s Fitzrovia, bringing his exceptional pedigree to our sophisticated dining room.
Having moved to England at the age of seven, Jun has honed his craft in some of the country’s most iconic kitchens. His culinary journey began with a formative apprenticeship at Le Gavroche at the age of 19. Following this experience, he moved on to Chez Nico to work under the legendary Nico Ladenis. Jun subsequently brought his expertise to a succession of celebrated establishments, including Restaurant Marco Pierre White, The Capital, Les Saveurs, The Square, and Pearl at the Chancery Court Hotel in Holborn.
A Michelin-Starred Partnership of French-Mediterranean and Pan-Indian Flavours
After mastering classical French techniques, Jun opened his own venture, The Ninth, in 2015. Here, he seamlessly pairs his classical background with a vibrant Mediterranean flair, focusing on refined, shareable plates executed with absolute precision. His exceptional talent was quickly recognised with a Michelin star in the 2017 Michelin Guide—an accolade he has proudly retained every year since. For this unique Four Hands experience, his culinary style will harmonise beautifully with Chef Atul Kochhar’s authentic Pan-Indian delicacies and exploration of India’s unexplored sister states.
Beyond his celebrated restaurant work, Jun is a familiar face on British television. He has hosted Channel 4’s Cooking It, won the Grand Final of Chopped Champions in 2013, and regularly shares his expertise on beloved programmes such as Saturday Kitchen, MasterChef: The Professionals, and Market Kitchen. We are thrilled to welcome his culinary brilliance to Kanishka for an unforgettable evening of fine dining and authentic hospitality.
