Chef Jun Tanaka is Chef Patron of The Ninth in London’s Fitzrovia.
Having moved to England at the age of seven, Jun has worked in some of country’s most iconic restaurants, beginning with an apprenticeship at Le Gavroche at the age of 19. Following his stint at Le Gavroche, Jun moved onto Chez Nico, where he worked under the legendary Nico Ladenis, before leaving to work in the kitchens of prestigious restaurants such as Restaurant Marco Pierre White, The Capital, Les Saveurs, The Square, and Pearl at the Chancery Court Hotel in Holborn.
After mastering classical French technique Jun opened his own restaurant The Ninth in 2015, showcasing his French background with Mediterranean flair, focusing on shareable plates executed with expert precision. Soon after opening, the restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star in the 2017 Michelin Guide, which it has retained every year since.
In addition to his restaurant work, Jun is also a regular on TV, having appeared on programmes, having hosted Channel 4’s Cooking It, winning the Grand Final of Chopped Champions in 2013, and having appeared on Saturday Kitchen, MasterChef: The Professionals, ITV’s Saturday Cooks, Market Kitchen, Daily Cooks Challenge and more.
